Marufuku Ramen is a lively ramen restaurant tucked into Oakland’s bustling Telegraph Avenue, known for its distinctive tonkotsu-style bowls and a menu that offers both classic and creative takes on Japanese comfort food. The space tends to fill quickly, especially in the evenings and weekends, drawing locals who appreciate hearty, well-crafted ramen with a side of casual, communal energy.

Inside, the atmosphere is vibrant and a bit noisy, which reflects the popularity and warmth of the place but might make quiet conversations a bit challenging during peak hours. The staff channels a familiar Japanese dining ethos, greeting guests with attentive service and a friendly, efficient rhythm that keeps the orders flowing even when the waitlist is full.

The food here centers on rich, creamy broths and tender noodles — the Hakata Tonkotsu Deluxe and Chicken Paitan DX stand out for their depth of flavor and balance. For those looking to complement their ramen, small plates like takoyaki, tempura Brussels sprouts, and spicy wings add variety and a hit of fun to the meal. The inclusion of unique items like shrimp tempura buns with yuzu mayo and house sake selections also adds to the distinct local twist on familiar Japanese dishes.

Marufuku serves a crowd that ranges from ramen aficionados to folks seeking a satisfying comfort meal after a day spent exploring Oakland’s eclectic mix of shops and cultural spots. The quick seating turnover and efficient service make it a good choice if you’re in for a solid meal without a long sit-down, though some waiting during busy times is almost guaranteed.

Best to arrive early evening or during weekday afternoons to avoid the peak buzz. The energetic vibe paired with the rich, savory broths gives a taste of Japan with a clear Bay Area personality — merging tradition with the neighborhood’s easygoing spirit and diverse palate.

Place was very busy and loud, it was hard to hear my partner. We had to sign up for a waitlist, but that’s okay. The staff was nice and friendly, I can see how they’re trying to copy the Japanese way of welcoming the customer, having a Gachapon machine etc. I ordered Hakata Tonkotsu ramen. I found the broth very creamy and very mushroomy in flavor which kinda took me out of the Japanese fantasy and made me feel more like I was eating a fancy mushroom soup. The ingredients themself were tasty, but the broth just didn’t hit the spot for me. It was tasty, but not what I wanted/expected at all. I also found 2 super thin slices of meat to not be enough for the soup ratio.

This place was so so so good. There was definitely a bit of a wait, but once we got seated the service was incredibly fast. We ordered within minutes, and a few minutes later we were served all of our food. The food was amazing, the pork was so tender and the pork broth was so flavorful. Highly recommend!

Had some Takoyaki Balls and Black Garlic Tonkatsu soup it was one of the best Black Garlic I had, 2nd best to Ramen Hood from L.A., CA Grand Central Market. Everytime I am around the area I will be stopping by. Great side diplings for the Takoyaki balls. Fell in love with this place will be back again.

I’ve always been a big fan of ramen, and this place is definitely one of my top two recommendations in the East Bay/Oakland area! The only other spot I’d suggest is Mensho on Piedmont Ave. I’ve been coming here for years, and my favorite is always the Chicken Paitan DX. The broth is always so rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of umami and not too much salt. I absolutely love when that grilled, sizzling chicken leg comes out—it’s just so delicious! You can try their other sides and appetizers, but this order will fill you up pretty fast. The staff are always super attentive, and the restaurant has a perfect vibe for a date night or just hanging out with friends. Plus, the line is much shorter than the one in San Francisco Japantown. I’m a huge fan of this restaurant and would highly recommend it to all ramen lovers!

The ramen is phenomenal! Rich broth, perfect noodles, everything dialed in. I’d happily wait in line again for the food alone. That said the experience during peak hours is intense . When I was there, the line felt extra long and crowded largely because Uber/DoorDash drivers were picking up orders through the same front door as dine-in guests. It got a little chaotic at the entrance and made it hard to tell where to stand or who was waiting for what. Still an easy 5 stars. the food always hits. I did create a mockup below what might make the entrance less chaotic.

The Ramen was pretty good especially because it's a cold rainy day. My son had the Chicken Katsu Ramen he really liked it.

This ramen place was on my list but always crowded and today I got to expect it. I didn't try anything other than the spicy tantan noodles but felt it was no more than a 4. The noodles were very tough, the broth tasted very powdery and the grounded chicken was a no-op. I also don't like how they don't have opinionated authentic vs spicy broths and offer any spice level with any broth. Tells me not proud of their work.
